Representative Matt Shea is honored to earn the support of law enforcement. Matt recognizes public safety as one of his top priorities and was the prime sponsor in 2010 of HB 2717 to stop the practice of allowing field trips for the criminally insane in the wake of the Phillip Paul escape from the Spokane County Fair. The bill passed with broad bi-partisan support and was eventually signed into law by Gov. Gregoire.

Defending the right to keep and bear arms, Matt earned the endorsement of the NRA (National Rifle Association). Matt is widely known for his staunch unwavering support of the Second Amendment and last year co-sponsored HB 1016 along with 14 Democrats to allow the use of firearm noise suppressors in Washington State. The bill passed with broad bi-partisan support and was eventually signed into law by Gov. Gregoire.

Matt is a recognized leader in the state defending private property rights earning special recognition from CAPR (Citizens Alliance for Property Rights) for his work to pass a bi-partisan budget proviso establishing a first right of repurchase for owners of property acquired through eminent domain and then later sold as surplus.
July 12, 2012 – CAPR has endorsed and rated Matt Shea as “OUTSTANDING.”

June 12, 2012 – NFIB (National Federation of Independent Businesses) has endorsed Matt Shea for his strong pro-business stance and recognized him as a “Guardian of Small Business.”

Shea has also earned the endorsements from the Spokane Home Builders Association, the Rental Housing Association PAC, Washington Retail Association, and the Washington Multi-Family Housing Association. Matt is honored to have these endorsements clearly showing his principled stand on the issues that matter most to those in the 4th Legislative District and reaffirming his outstanding record of protecting small businesses from the ever encroaching arm of government.
